Cracka Review

Cab Sav is what 'The Margs' is best known for, along with Chardonnay, and this one has the legs to kick on for a few more years. Aromas of cassis, choc-mint and slight rose florals creep out of the glass, whilst the palate is more medium-bodied and a touch firm right now, but with some air it shows a nice plummy centre, an almost refreshing hint of mint, solid tannins, and a tight anise-like finish. Needs a few slices of beef to contend with.

Expert Reviews

Jeremy Oliver (2010 Vintage) says
Elegant and stylish, likely to develop along classical, smoky lines, this sweetly scented young cabernet has a dusty, lightly herbal fragrance of violets, blackcurrants, raspberries and fresh cedar/vanilla oak. It's supple and restrained, with a long, gentle presence of cassis, dark cherries and plums finely balanced with oak and powdery, loose-knit tannins.

Ray Jordan (2009 Vintage) says
Opens on the nose with a distinctive leafy character which mingles with those typical red minty fruits of this variety. It's full to medium bodied but with ample weight. The structure is quite angular and tight but the palate lingers to a long finish. A firmer style needing some time.

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
The bouquet exhibits essency red and blackcurrant fruit, with a delicate seasoning of cigar box and black olive; the palate is full of sweet fruit, but is quite serious in its intent, with a long, firm and well-balanced finish to conclude.

Still a pup at tasting but has all the right things in all the right places to suggest a bright future. Classic example of the vintage with a tight effortless length displaying beautiful sweet fruit balanced with ripe dry tannins and smooth fine grained oak. Like the Shiraz it needs to breathe.

Elegant; cool red fruit and a light seasoning of oak; the palate is fine and quite linear, with gentle, yet plush tannin and an even line from start to finish.

An excellent expression of this vintage from the southern part of Margaret River. It's fine and elegant with a cool mint, red berry and light cedar mix on the nose. The seamless palate packs some fleshy tightly wound fruit into a long angular structure. Beautifully fragrant oak carries through to the palate. Stylish wine of great refinement.

Diffuse colour; spicy blackcurrant aroma and fore-palate, then tannins cut in forcefully; the tannins need to soften before the fruit fades.

James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Fresh, medium-bodied, clearly articulated cassis blackcurrant varietal fruit; fine-boned tannins; good length.
