Cracka Review

I think we’ve given up counting how many wineries in the Margaret River get 5 stars from wine writer James Halliday, but believe us it’s a whole load. Redgate are 5 star recipients with the quality to match and this shows why the white blend of the region has taken the country by storm. Its appeal is understandable with vital citrus, passionfruit and tropical flavours with great intensity as well as fresh acids on the finish.

Expert Reviews

Wine Companion (2015 Vintage) says
Right in the heart of Margaret River style, with a Catherine wheel of citrus, fresh grass/herb, gooseberry and pineapple, the barrel ferment adding a third dimension to the structure and texture.

Ray Jordan (2012 Vintage) says
Powerful bouquet with a fresh mown grass and passionfruit dominance. Fruity with precise acid and a long finish. Excellent wine that should be best in the short term while it retains that youthful character.

Jeremy Oliver (2011 Vintage) says
An elegant and finely presented blend whose fresh, lightly grassy aromas of grapefruit lemon, mango and passionfruit precede a long, juicy and brightly lit palate. It's supple and restrained but packed with pure, intense fruit and wrapped in a gentle, but invigorating acidity.
The Australian Wine Annual 2013
James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Bright, light straw-green; the expressive bouquet ranges through grass, lemon and green apple, characters amplified on the long palate, there joined by a touch of tropical fruit.
Australian Wine Companion 2012
Jeremy Oliver (2010 Vintage) says
A fresh, tangy Margaret River blend whose intense limey, mineral and lemon sherbet-like aromas of gooseberries, melon and cassis are backed by a hint of nettle. Generous and juicy, it's pristine, fresh and racy, with a long, brightly lit and chalky palate of pure fruit culminating in a clean, faintly mineral finish.

Ray Jordan (2009 Vintage) says
Here is the quintessential blended white wine from Margaret River. It's sav Blanc dominant giving it plenty of weight with the lifted aromatics of semillon to the fore. It has an intense minerally and slightly herbal character with light herbaceousness. Palate is pure and balanced with a crisp fine acid to sustain. Perfect as a drink over the coming 12 months.
Ray Jordan's 2011 WA Wine Guide 2011
James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Strong nettle bouquet, very assertive; quite crisp, but a little simple.

I like this style Sauvignon Blanc semillon. Distinct barrel influence with the lemon and light grassiness string features. Beautifully balanced and very intense with a lifted fresh finish to the palate. Lovely wine.
Ray Jordan's 2009 WA Wine Guide 2009
Jeremy Oliver (2007 Vintage) says
An intense, but not over the top sauvignon blanc whose gooseberry and passion fruit flavours are backed by grassy, nettle-like influences and supported by fine, chalky phenolics. It's vibrant and fresh, and while it does need a little more time in the bottle, it does steadily open up layers of mid-palate fruitiness before finishing with tightness and minerality.
Australian Wine Annual 2009 2008
James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Expressive varietal fruit trembles on the brink of reduction, but avoids it; a lively and fresh palate with passionfruit and tropical flavours balanced by lemony acidity; deliciously fresh finish and great value.
Australian Wine Companion 2008 2007
Jeremy Oliver (2006 Vintage) says
A tightly focused, flavoursome and vibrant regional blend whose lightly grassy fragrance of tropical fruit precedes a tangy juicy palate underpinned by chalky phenolics that culminates in a refreshing finish of zesty acids. Right on the style button.
Australian Wine Annual 2008 2007
James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Spotlessly clean; a lively mix of passionfruit, gooseberry and citrus; bright finish.
Australian Wine Companion 2007 2006
James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Pleasantly ripe gooseberry and tropical fruit; the palate progressively builds power through to a long finish.
Australian Wine Companion 2006 2005
Jeremy Oliver (2004 Vintage) says
Complex and slightly sweaty with herbal melon and gooseberry aromas backed by a whiff of smokiness. Juicy and forward, it's generous and fiavoursome expression of tropical melon and passionfruit just lacks a little bite and definition.
Australian Wine Annual 2006 2005
Jeremy Oliver (2003 Vintage) says
Typical regional sauvignon blanc with a lively grassy, herbal aroma of passionfruit, melon and other tropical fruits. Elegant and restrained, but tangy and flavoursome, it's fine and steely, with a pleasing length of fruit and a refreshing finish.
Australian Wine Annual 2005 2004
James Halliday (2003 Vintage) says
Crisp, quite concentrated and focused; mineral, lemon and red apple; good acidity.
Australian Wine Companion 2005 2004
James Halliday (2002 Vintage) says
Pale straw-green; the spotlessly clean bouquet has fresh, zesty grass and green pea aromas; the light, lively and pure palate has mineral and green pea fruit; a wine of unusual clarity.
