cracka review

If anyone knows what they are doing with Shiraz, it's Steve Pannell. This is a truly medium-bodied style that shows pretty aromas of blackberries, anise and purple flowers, along with a sniff of herbs. The palate is fine and fruity, with licks of pepper spice and savouriness, fine-grained tannins, bright acidity, and a long, spicy finish. It would be awesome with lamb cutlets.

expert reviews

Nick Stock (2010 Vintage) says
The 2010 is sourced from an elevated site (410 metres) at Echunga in the Southern reaches of the Adelaide Hills and shows a gently meaty side, along with a mix of leaves, flowers and savoury Eastern spice, plenty of cherry and black fruits below. The palate has a beautiful sheen of fine tannin and delves through dark berry fruits into licorice flavours. The powdery tannin squeeze is really compelling here. Superb depth and drive; really juicy and engaging style.

Nick Stock (2009 Vintage) says
Pannell has sourced a parcel of shiraz (called syrah here) grown at around 400 metres near the township of Echunga, delivering a wine that has a gently complex, spicy side across plenty of cassis and plum fruit. The palate's mid-weight and fresh, with crunchy acid and plenty of red-fruit flavour across fine-grained, even tannins. Savoury and contained, almost Italian-like in style.

winemaker's notes

“Shiraz and Syrah are the same grape. We call this wine the Syrah to reflect the style of the wine, as we do for Pinot Grigio and Gris. I think and hope that this particular vintage of Syrah turns out to be one of the best wines I have ever made...”
