2015 Spring Vale Estate Pinot Noir

Winemaker's Notes

Our flagship Pinot. Rich and complex with great length.

Dark brick red in colour, this Pinot Noir has powerful aromas of dark cherry complimented by charred oak and mixed spice. The palate has lively sour cherry and strawberry flavours nicely balanced by savoury oak and persistent fine grained tannin. An elegant and delicate Pinot Noir but with a myriad of flavours and great length that will allow careful cellaring.

Winemaking notes: The 2015 saw a return to average yields with good flowering conditions and a moderate ripening period producing berries of consistent size and quality.
With low disease risk the fruit was in pristine condition and flavour ripeness developed steadily. Over a busy two weeks the fruit was harvested then de-stemmed into open pots with regular plunging to gently extract tannins.
Upon dryness the wine was pressed to French barriques, 30% of which were new, where it remained for 9 months. After this time in oak, the wine was racked to tank where it was left for two months to further integrate the tannins. It was then sterile filtered and bottled. Though it’s not as concentrated as the very low yielding 2014 Pinot Noir the quality of fruit in the 2015 shows beautifully.

Expert Reviews

Campbell Mattinson (2013 Vintage) says
Relatively light colour but complex and powerful. It's not to be taken lightly. Stewed cherries, spice, foresty notes, sweet black tea and crushed dry leaves. It draws you in. It establishes its flavours quickly and then teases all the way through to a long finish.
