cracka review

Straight out of the Yarra Valley comes this fresh and elegant style of Sauvignon Blanc with all the passionfruit flavour that fans of the style have come to love. Clean and pure, it is a wine made for Summer, and I for one will be tucking in left, right and centre.

expert reviews

James Halliday (2012 Vintage) says
Light, bright green-straw; the brave, very early picking decision has paid off with this vibrantly fresh and juicy Sauvignon Blanc, with passionfruit, citrus and lychee to the fore, lemony acidity driving the long finish. Very good value.

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Pale straw-green; notes of cut grass and nettle on the bouquet are to be found on the super-intense palate, but tropical characters join the party adding to the drive and prodigious intensity of the wine.

A wine that creeps up on you, saving the best for last as the finish surges with passionfruit, lemon and gooseberry flavours

Clean, fresh and lively; clear-cut varietal character in a fresh citrus/gooseberry/ passionfruit spectrum; not intense, but has length.

A clean bouquet with no reduction/sweatiness; moderate intensity, with tropical, apple, gooseberry and grass flavours; not particularly long.

Some of those slightly sweaty/reduced aromas, part of varietal character; delicate grassy, passionfruit, gooseberry, asparagus flavours; crisp finish.

winemaker's notes

Colour: Clear with lime hues.
Aroma: Kiwifruit, sugar snap pea, floral, jasmine.
Palate: Mandarin, kiwifruit, snow pea, crisp.

Winemaking
A warm ripening season with intermittent rains. Sauvignon Blanc, being quite succeptible to disease, had to be managed well for airflow to ensure the fruit zone dried quicker after rainfall episodes. The grapes for this wine were machine harvested in the early morning and top loaded directly into the press. Each vineyard batch was made as an individual stainless steel vat fermented wine. Cloudy juices were inoculated using selected yeasts and fermented using warmer temperatures. This combination gave rise to a textured and fruit driven palate. Blending of the individual batches took place in early May, where soon after it was filtered and bottled.

Analysis
Alcohol: 12.5%
pH: 3.31
Acid: 6.3 g/L

Cellaring
Such a fresh wine is best enjoyed now, whilst young and vibrant, however it will drink well for up to 3 years.
