cracka review

Be gone boring Sauvignon Blanc! It's time for something interesting and this Teusner Woodside Sauvignon Blanc is just the ticket. Made by the ever cool Teusner crew, this is a wine that deliberately aims for more texture and finesse, swapping pungency for flavour. There's a secret twist to this wine too, with a little dash of old vine Barossa Semillon added to the blend for acidity and punch, all making for a surprisingly complex white wine of real interest. Sounds good doesn't it? Top level Aussie Sauv Blanc!

expert reviews

Gary Walsh (2015 Vintage) says
Fancy fancy bottle! Has vines and Teusner built into the glass. Here’s a good one. Has a slight whiff of tomato plant, but it’s mainly about juicy tropical fruit with a slight musky and floral perfume. Big burst of passionfruit flavour, clean mouth-watering acidity, even has some creaminess and flint to add textural interest. Finish is satisfyingly long and fruity with sweet lemon and chalk giving it a bit of a tweak.

winemaker's notes

“The Barossa is an amazing place… produces brilliant Shiraz, Mataro, Grenache, Riesling… there are few places like it on Earth that can tick the box marked ‘outstanding’ on so many different grape varieties. But awesome Sauvignon Blanc is just one of those things that alludes us (nobody’s perfect)… too warm in February, right at the moment when the ripening grapes need some cool time. So I head to them hills to the South… the higher and cooler Adelaide Hills (fondly referred to by some as the south eastern Barossa)… eminently better for Sauvignon Blanc, in fact in my view the best place in Australia to grow the stuff!

I reckon this wine has got it all for Sauvignon Blanc lovers… plenty of tropical fruit on the nose and heaps of mouthwatering, energetic acidity to freshen up a palate full of ripping fresh tropical fruits. But how do we stand out from the pack you ask? What’s the ‘Teusner Twist’ on this classic? Well, there’s a splash (just 3%) of old vine Barossa Semillon for a start, to spruce up the nose with a touch of lemon flower. And then we like to have a portion of the juice hang around on skins a bit before pressing to extract a little more flavour. There’s also leaving the juice on lees until we bottle it up to bring a little texture to the final result. A little bit of extra work at the winery pays off in the end… a cracking Sauvignon Blanc that brings us a heap of pleasure!”
