2015 West Cape Howe Hannah's Hill Cabernet Malbec

Winemaker's Notes

The 2015 Hannah’s Hill has had a shift to Cabernet Malbec to display the intense Frankland River Malbec against the classic Mount Barker Cabernet Sauvignon. After harvest, the parcels of fruit were fermented in separate batches for the best blending options before bottling. Careful monitoring during fermentation with frequent pump-overs ensured maximum colour & flavour extraction from the skins. After pressing out, the wine was put to barrel in a mixture of new and older French oak for 16 months maturation before blending and bottling in October 2016.

Colour: An amazingly inky & dense crimson with a purple red hue.

Aroma: Intense aromas of dark berry fruits e.g. boysenberry & blackcurrant, with complexing dry savoury spice and lifted violets.

Palate: Beautifully full flavoured with great texture. The rich, dark berry fruit flavours are very well balanced by the drying tannins from the fruit and the well-integrated oak and gives this wine its great length and persistence of flavour. This is a wine with the depth of fruit and a spicy finish to be enjoyed while still young, but will also reward a few years in the cellar. A lovely balance of fruit and savoury will make this wine a good food match with many foods.

Cellar Potential: Beautiful drinking now and over the next 6 years or so.

Fruit Source: 84% Mount Barker Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Frankland River Malbec.

Alc/vol: 14.0%

Huon Hooke (2015 Vintage) says
Dried herbs, tomato stems, very Cabernet aromas, the colour is deep and the palate rich and full, soft and rounded, with no sharp edges. Cassis galore. Good balance and length. Top value.
