2015 Yalumba Organic Riverland Shiraz

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Ring the bell and hold the phone. We don’t give away five stars that often but this wine certainly gets it. Just a deliciously fascinating mid-weight Shiraz with earthy spicy characters and really impressive length. Far from a block buster this is a very find restrained Australian Shiraz for a very attractive price and organic too!

Winemaker's Notes

Crimson red in colour with purple hues. Purple flowers such as violets and lavender are combined with blueberries, plums and forest floor aromas to create an appealing nose. These aromas are continued on the palate and are joined by a hint of all-spice and mulberry. A medium bodied wine with plush soft tannins and a bright, juicy persistent finish.

Vegan friendly.

2015 Yalumba Organic Riverland Shiraz

Expert Reviews

Nick Stock (2010 Vintage) says
A properly-certified organic young Shiraz with plenty of vibrant and juicy flavour – some bright red fruit and plum, really lively and soft, sweeping playful tannins and simple, direct fleshy palate shape.

Good red wine. Not big or impressive, but ripe and flavoursome, black-fruited and well weighted. There are no real signs of oak flavour, it just tastes like a big handful of squished dark berries, fresh and pure. It’s a great style of wine.

There's some reductive complexity across the top of this organic shiraz that is more often seen in cool-climate styles - it works a treat. The fruit sits in an earthy plum and berry style, all nicely lifted; the palate's juicy and lively with plenty of fine tannin and drinkable appeal. For the money, it's hard to beat!

It needs some air but it then quaffs very nicely. Three cheers for Yalumba – they’ve delivered exactly what (a segment of) the market wants. Cherries and blackberries with a lick of spice. No real oak to speak of and medium-bodied at its deepest point. Grown smart and tastes smart. You feel good drinking it.
