2015 Yalumba Y Series Sauvignon Blanc

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

A dry savvy with a touch of sweetness up front for added appeal. It's full of tropical fruit salad smells in the mango, guava and pineapple spectrum, along with generous whiffs of yellow citrus. The palate is quite ripe and zesty, with a line of bright acidity, and a fresh, dry finish that would see it match well with grilled white fish and thick-cut chips.

Winemaker's Notes

The 2015 displays plenty of generosity, full bodied and textural, reminiscent of passionfruit brûlée. A freshness of green paw paw and nettles sweep along to finish this easy drinking and enjoyable wine, showing all of the hall marks of good Australian Sauvignon Blanc; line and length with generosity of flavour.

Enjoy with a citrus dressed barbecued calamari salad. Vegan friendly.

2015 Yalumba Y Series Sauvignon Blanc

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2012 Vintage) says
Pale straw, bright; a combination of freshly squeezed lemon juice and gooseberry; the palate is dry and very high in acid, with a seriously mouth-puckering finish; one for the die-hard sauvignon fans out there.

Y Series is one of the most reliable performers in the sub-$15 sauvignon stakes, and the latest rendition is an accurate expression of a cool vintage. Devoted followers of this label will note more asparagus, cut grass, tinned peas and capsicum in this release, while maintaining classic Y Series zesty citrus profile and accurate varietal definition.

Bright, pale green; cleverly marries citrus and tropical fruits on the bouquet and palate, the latter with good mouthfeel in a lighter-bodied spectrum. Will have broad appeal, and is great value.

Y? There’s no question. At this price, it should be ‘Y Not?’ The perfect partner to Stumpy, sauvignon is the most versatile food white. This pair will handle everything on your celebration table (except choc – you’re not still on about that?). This is serious sauv, romping over many NZs at double its price.

Floral aromas with some passionfruit; plenty of flavour and life on the palate in a tropical spectrum; quite an achievement for the vintage.

Pale straw-green, it has pristine varietal aromas of cut grass and spice, the light but vibrant palate with citrus fruit and a clean, risk, dry finish.

Well-made; the clearest possible varietal character, with a mix of grass, herb, gooseberry and more tropical fruit; long, lemony finish.
