2016 Allan Scott Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Wine is a truly family affair for the Scott family who have been making wine in Marlborough since the early 90's. Allan was responsible for planting some of the region's most famous vineyards, so it’s fair to say he knows a bit about tending vines and his son Josh is the winemaker who coaxes the best out of the fruit. Tropical as all get out, with grapefruit and a touch of regional herbaceousness on the nose, passionfruit dominates with notes of nettle then lovely balanced acids. It’s as bracing as a cold shower while being pelted by passionfruits.

Winemaker's Notes

Crisp, fresh, tasty. All you would expect from a classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Grapefruit and crisp minerality. Dry finish with a racy acidity.

Always sensational with fresh Marlborough seafood, or try with West Coast whitebait fritters.

Alc/vol: 12.5%

Expert Reviews

Nick Stock (2009 Vintage) says
Quite taut, reasonably compact and decidedly brisk in style, this reflects the compact, restrained vintage. There are lighter tropical notes and a good dose of bright acidity holding the wine fresh, tropical fruit flavour, some citrus too, and nice, bright, balanced resolve.
The Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide 2010 2009
James Halliday (1999 Vintage) says
Light green-yellow; the bouquet is spotlessly clean and quite delicate, with a mix of passionfruit and more minerally characters. The palate follows down the same track, perhaps more mineral than tropical, but with echoes of the passionfruit running through a long palate with pleasant grip on the finish.

James Halliday (1998 Vintage) says
Light to medium yellow-green; the bouquet is fragrant and clean, with gooseberry fruit aromas; the palate has excellent pungency with more gooseberry flavour; the crisp acidity gives a classic Sauvignon Blanc bite to the finish.
Australian Wine Companion 2000 1999
James Halliday (1997 Vintage) says
Light yellow-green; the bouquet is clean, but light and lacking the intensity of the best wines of the vintage; the palate, similarly, is clean, crisp and fresh, with just a touch of passionfruit and gentle acid on the finish. Easy drinking.
