cracka review

Are you a Savvy purchaser? This question has a distinct double meaning because it refers to whether you like to buy Sauvignon Blanc and do you like it at a keen price. This is at the premium end of Marlborough but what you get in return is a wine of vitality and freshness that shows off just how good the style can be. It’s full of citrus lift with floral hints and underscored by wild herbs before delivering an intense and textural palate with great balance and length of flavour.

expert reviews

Tyson Stelzer (2012 Vintage) says
A refined and pretty sauvignon with lemon blossom and guava aromas and a palate of tangy passionfruit, lime zest and subtle green pea notes. It finishes long, clean and zesty, with a vibrant acid line. A value offering in the vast Marlborough sauvignon category.

Louise Radman (2009 Vintage) says
A richer, food friendly style of savvy with subtle complexity & elegance. Leafy gooseberry, fresh pineapple, ruby grapefruit & spice with underlying smokiness. Layers of flavour & texture from lees stirring & 5% fermentation in new French oak

Nick Stock (2007 Vintage) says
This has attractive complexity; gently tweaked tropical fruits are delivered in intense form, really fresh and memorable. The palate packs similar impact and pungent ripe tropical flavours, plenty of cleansing acid crunch and lingering passionfruit flavour. Bright as a button, it will please the entire party.

winemaker's notes

The perfect summer white, this is a delicious citrus bomb. It has an alluring mix of tropical and citrus fruits interwoven with herbal notes and lively acidity. Subtle oak influences give it texture and fullness. A beautifully elegant wine, enjoy it with citrus-dressed salads, grilled vegetables, aromatic seafood dishes and your favourite Asian cuisine.

Vinification: Fruit that went into the 2016 wine was harvested in a relatively brief 10 day window from April 1st 2016. As always with Catalina Sounds, we have allowed the fruit to tell its story and added extra layers of interest via a small amount of oak fermentation, extended ageing (un-sulphured) on yeast lees post ferment, and for the first time trialled ‘full solids’ tank ferments to provide an additional dimension both aromatically and texturally. The result is a wine with a punchier nose than preceding years whilst maintaining the Catalina house style of delivering a textured and rich palate balanced with fruit precision and focus.

Maturation: French oak puncheons.

Aroma: Aromatically, the wine displays attractive grapefruit and white currant notes, with tropical fruits and crushed herbs in support.

Palate: A perfectly balanced palate finishing refreshingly long and mouth watering.

Food matching: Great with fresh seafood, summer salads or grilled vegetables and goats cheese.
