Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

This is a guaranteed crowd pleaser, especially at meal times where it would pair well with antipasto dishes of fried calamari or risotto balls. The wine has an amazing aromatic lift and shows notes of pear and citrus. The palate is refreshing and clean with a crisp acid finish.

Winemaker's Notes

Variety: Pinot Grigio. Native to Italy. In Australia very suited to the King Valley as well as the more maritime climates.

Vineyard: In 1994, the De Bortoli family planted the Bella Riva vineyard on the King River at the base of the Victorian snowfields. The vineyard is planted on sandstone and shale deposits washed down by the river. Several clones of Pinot Gris on four vineyard sites.

Bouquet: Dry and textural Pinot Grigio showing aromatics of pear and citrus.

Palate: Bright flavours with good texture and complexity. Perfect for those lazy summer days with a baguette and some washed rind cheese.

Vintage conditions: Good season, beautiful aromatics, timely rainfall.

Winemaking: Gently aromatic, dry and savoury for every day enjoyment. Grapes are both whole bunch pressed as well as crushed to give a range of phenolics for complexity and texture. The juice is fermented in stainless tanks with a small portion in older French oak casks. Lees are stirred regularly until final assembling of the blend.

Cellaring: Enjoy now or cellar for two to three years.

Food match: These lighter style whites have a touch of zest and herbaceous characters, they match well with:
Cooked seafood - seafood pastas and salads; grilled prawns; fish and chips; scallops
Vegetables - roast pumpkin with goats cheese; stuffed capsicum; vegetarian pastas

Alc/vol: 12.0%

James Halliday (2015 Vintage) says
A faint hint of blush pink leads into a grigio looking over its shoulder at gris - it's no shy, retiring flower - a good thing in this context.
