Cracka Review

Fresh and juicy is the theme with this bonny little Chardy made from fruit out of the Riverina and King Valley. Smells of peaches, lemons, melons and creaminess decorate the nose, whilst the palate is lighter-bodied and very lightly oaked, with bright citrusy flavours, a tickle of sweetness, a velvety mouthfeel, and a decent, tidy finish. A true bargain!

Winemaker's Notes

Appearance: Very pale straw with a green tinge.

Bouquet: Tight, fresh pear with stone fruit and is balanced with a subtle, hint of oak.

Palate: This wine displays early picked peach and melon notes carried on a weighty palate, culminating in a fresh & crisp finish with the most interesting of oak nuances.

Vintage conditions: Warmer temperatures and consistent winter–spring rains made for an early bud burst. We had half of it picked before the late January rains began and once dry, perfect conditions followed as the added soil moisture kept night time temperatures low allowing the fruit to retain its natural acid. Last trucks coming in by the first week of February allowing us to have it on shelves for spring.

Winemaking: Fruit classification was based on those vineyards showing flavour expression characteristic of Sacred Hill quality. Healthy balanced vineyards profiling fresh stone fruits and a natural acidity were chosen for this wine style. This wine was fermented cool over a two week period. Selected parcels were fermented with the inclusion of French oak staves. Once fermentation was complete exceptional wines were matured on fine yeast lees over 4 months to build palate weight.

Cellaring: Made for immediate enjoyment but will improve over the next 2-3 years.

Food match: These more full bodied styles match well with:
Creamy pasta - white wine and cream sauces; mushroom risotto
Chicken - grilled chicken; chicken caesar salad
Hard cheeses - parmesan; roumano; vintage gouda

Additional informationL Suitable for Vegans & Vegetarians.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
Bright, light green-gold, from whence I don't know.  Yet another your de force from De Bortoli, with melon and yellow peach fruit making oak totally unnecessary.
Wine Companion 2012
Nick Stock (2010 Vintage) says
An amalgam of Victorian chardonnay delivered as a quite complex style for the price point, this has some lees and white nougat, honeysuckle and fresh-cut pear, melon and light stone fruits. The palate has smooth, supple texture and crisp, bright peach and pear fruit flavours - nicely balanced and beautifully delivered. Outclasses many wines a twice or three times the price!
The Good Wine Guide 2012
James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Stone fruits and a touch of spice; clean, fresh, focused and zesty on the finish; outstanding value.
