cracka review

There's very little oak in this, and it's thoroughly modern displaying aromas of apples, pears and citrusy grapefruit on the nose. The palate is svelte, lip smacking and zesty with a fresh, dry finish and a crunchy texture. Freshly shucked oysters would be the go with this one.

expert reviews

Rob Geddes MW (2012 Vintage) says
Fraser Gallop are always fine and classy with well grown fruit, detailed wine making and careful judgement. Verges on the side of leanness and refinement with exquisite judgement.Brightly citrus chardonnay with apple and pear fruit subtle lees and oak work add details and nuance with solids savoury building the whole picture. The palate has a lot of flavour nuances, good line and length and a marked crunchy granny smith apple acid finish that will partner fine food well.

winemaker's notes

Tasting notes: Pristine and clear with a glowing straw-green colour. Aromas of grapefruit, lime with honey, almond and oatmeal notes from the influence of understated oak. On the palate it’s elegant but flavoured with grapefruit and pear characters, leading to a crisp finish.

Winemaker comments: We look to downplay the influence of oak and let the pristine fruit flavours take main stage. It’s energetic and long with a high drinkability factor.

Vintage: Our usual winter rainfall arrived early in the season, which then eased off in the later half and into spring. This provided the region with a warmer than average spring, and as a result predictions for another early vintage were being made. Rain returned in December, and the weather returned to normal through to the second week of January.
Rain in mid-January had an immediate effect and recharged the dry sub-soils. As the fruit was still firm, quality wasn’t effected, and came into the winery clean, vibrant with layers of flavour.

Cellaring: Drinks beautifully on release and up to 5 years.
