2016 Gundog Estate The Chase Hunter Valley Semillon
James Halliday (2016 Vintage) says
The Chase is of absolute purity of varietal expression, the opposite of Gundog's Wild Semillon. Here the first 500 litres (of 700+) per tonne of juice are cold-settled to star brightness before racking and fermentation with a neutral cultured yeast. Yet its bouquet surges out of the glass with lemongrass/hay aromas, the palate then imprinting its suite of flavours for a seeming eternity. Small wonder it won a gold medal at the Hunter Valley Wine Show '16, making light of the challenges of the vintage.
Campbell Mattinson (2016 Vintage) says
Remarkable purity. It’s a clean, effortless wine, almost satiny to the touch – in mouthfeel terms – with lemongrass, citrus and sherbet flavours doing all the talking. Quite lovely.
Huon Hooke (2016 Vintage) says
Palish straw hue; the aromas are grassy and dried herbal, humus-like and faintly lemony. The taste is also a fairly classic mix of fresh herbs and lemon juice. Clean and soft, round and accessible. A jolt of citrusy acidity on the farewell. A cellarworthy style.
James Suckling (2016 Vintage) says
This has a cool apple and lemon core, really mouth-watering acidity and impressive crisp, crunchy apple and lime fruit and composed shape to it. Drink now or age.
