Cracka Review

The Skilly Valley was Kilikanoon's first crack at Pinot Gris, and they have hit the ground running! Made in a more off-dry style, scents of nashi pears, soft spices and honeysuckle waft out of the glass, whilst the palate is more medium-bodied and slightly sweet, with rich pear and apple flavours, a zip of lemony acidity, and a rich, talcy, textured finish. It slips down oh so easy, and would be the bomb with spicy dishes.

Winemaker's Notes

A cool climate Pinot Gris, majority sourced from the Woodvale vineyard in the Skillogallee Valley.

Place: Clare Valley.

Viticulture: After a dry late spring and summer growing season, the harvest season finished quite wet and cool, before hand harvesting, early draining and a long cool ferment, with bottling occurring early to preserve the wines vibrancy and varietal appeal.

Winemaking: Created in a leaner and more complex style than many fuller bodied Pinot Gris’s that are on the market, this predominantly Skilly Valley sourced cuvee features the fresh flavours of green apples and oriental pears, perfectly balanced by its cool climate acidity and hints of naturally retained grape sugars.

Colour: Pale straw in colour with youthful green tints and a brilliant clarity.

Aroma: A richly focussed and lifted nose, chock full of green apples, squeezed limes and cinnamon spices.

Palate: The perfect accompaniment to a range of classic dishes, the palate combines the extroverted flavours of green apples, lime juice and oriental pears, with crisp acidity and the textural interest of natural grape sugars in a balanced and persistent finish.

Cellaring: Typically enjoyed young and fresh but will attain additional complexity if given 2 – 3 years of careful cellaring.

Alc/vol: 13.0%
