2016 Ninth Island Chardonnay

Expert Reviews

Rob Geddes MW (2012 Vintage) says
Fresh apples fuji and jonathon varieties. Starts out fresh and finely fruit driven and develops complexity into the middle with an apertif level of acidity and the finish is fresh layered and crisp. Has finesse and is great for the price

Tyson Stelzer (2009 Vintage) says
This wine wears its cool climate origins on its pretty little sleeve. Low alcohol and packed with epic citrus of lime zest, kaffir lime and lemon, it's a restrained, structured style. Ultra zesty from start to finish, here's a chardonnay that could easily fill in for a riesling or semillon with a seafood entree. Unashamedly aromatic, there's no oak here, and there doesn't need to be.
James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Pale straw, green hue; a tight and linear example with citrus the driving force; fine, fresh lemony palate, with a backbone of riverstone minerals and blanched almonds; long and racy.

Nick Stock (2006 Vintage) says
Classic chardonnay fruit characters; it looks rich and fragrant, ripe peach and stone fruits, very ripe, some rockmelon here too. The palate has some cool-climate acid verve, plenty of ripe flavours in the stone fruit spectrum, simple and intense.

James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Has intensity and thrust to the long, lingering palate; not complex, but nor is it sweet. Most impressive at the price.
Australian Wine Companion 2008 2007
James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Bracing, fresh and crisp citrussy fruit; spotlessly clean; bright, minerally acidity.
Australian Wine Companion 2006 2005
Jeremy Oliver (2004 Vintage) says
A flavoursome early-drinking chardonnay whose floral and green cashew aromas of tropical fruits, pear and peaches reveal a light, nutty background of vanilla and dusty oak. Forward and generous, it finishes with slightly under-ripe, herbal and sappy influences.
Australian Wine Annual 2006 2005
Jeremy Oliver (2003 Vintage) says
Light, but honest cool climate chardonnay, this fruit-driven wine has a lightly sweaty, candied aroma of green-edged tropical fruit, plus a forward palate of juicy stonefruit, apple and pear flavours. It's a little short, with some greenish acidity.

James Halliday (1997 Vintage) says
Light to medium green-yellow; a crisp, clean bouquet with a mix of mineral, herb and mint aromas. A refreshing, cool-grown style, with lively, zesty lemony overtones to the crisp fruit on the palate.
Australian Wine Companion 1999 1998
James Halliday (1996 Vintage) says
Brilliant light to medium yellow-green; clean, tangy citrus and stone fruit aromas lead into a lively, fresh and appealingly fruit-driven style, with plenty of flavour and presence. A great result for the vintage.
