Cracka Review

The Ninth Island range comes from the hallowed and heavenly soils of Tasmania, a region that is clearly demonstrating that cool climate wines are a force to be reckoned with. These grapes were sourced from the Pipers River and this wine has been made in the Italian Grigio style, so it’s crisp and clean and perfect with simple fish dishes. It’s tropical and musky with hints of spice before a burst of tropical fruit and zesty acids before a lingering fruit finish.

Winemaker's Notes

Pale golden straw, with a slight coppery hue.

Gently lifted bouquet of rose petal and pot pourri with lush exotic tropical fruits, dried banana chips, Turkish delight and the soft hints of musk talc and sweet Asian spice.

A lush full-bodied palate, flavour reminiscent of freshly squeezed exotic tropical fruits; paw-paw, mango, banana passion fruit, all with the soft and elegant alluring flavours of a ripe tropical punch that finishes lively and fresh with zingy crisp acid and lingering fruit.

Shame on you, cheapo grigio! Overcropped, overpriced, overhyped – I’m over you! Thank goodness I still have Ninth Island to turn to. Its crunchy, fresh Tassie fruit and gorgeous fragrance of frangipani and linden blossom will transport you to an island in just one sip. $15 at 1st Choice.

Here is one of the best Grigios you'll find at this price. The cool Tassie air has blessed it with a line of structured, lime-like acidity that cuts like a shard of ice through its core. Crisp Pink Lady apple, Nashi pear, vanilla pod and freshly ground nutmeg flavours complete the picture.

Faint blush tint; unusually scented rose petal, spice and tropical aromas lead into a very long palate, with a mineral and citrus backbone; very good balance. Tasmania is clearly suited to the variety.

Bright and breezy Tassie grigio with some fine aromatic notes, cool apple and melon fruits and Epsom salts. It delivers much more ripeness on the palate: apples, stone fruits - almost tropical - bananas and musk, pinned place with crisp acidity, finishing with harmony and freshness. Plenty of appeal.
