2016 Philip Shaw The Architect Chardonnay

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

If you want to back a Chardonnay from Orange, make sure it’s this one as this is a Shaw thing. Excuse the terrible pun but there’s real talent in everything Philip Shaw touches due to over thirty years in the business. It was always his dream to make wines from the region and The Architect is a well-structured white. It’s full of rich aromas of citrus and honey. The fruit is subtle on the palate but it’s an elegant, structured white wine that really shows it’s true character with food, particularly chicken or seafood.

Winemaker's Notes

Fruit for The Architect comes from our younger vines planted in 1995. This Chardonnay displays an excellent light-medium colour with a hint of green and an aroma that is bright with hints of honey. The Architect is not overtly fruity and its time on lees and in old barrels for around 6 months has given a subtle elegant fruit character with fine texture.

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Light straw-green; the complex bouquet has interlocking stone fruit and cashew aromas that flow into the long and polished palate, reflecting precisely judged ripeness. I am smitten with the label, part of a continuing design pattern.

Light straw-green; relatively early picking has given the wine zest and drive to its mix of citrus/grapefruit and stone fruit/melon flavours, any oak incidental. The labels in this range are brilliant.
