2016 S.C.Pannell Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Here we have a ripe but elegantly styled Savvy from one of our best winemakers - Steve Pannell. It's not an 'in your face' type of wine, in fact, it's almost svelte in its character, with appealing smells of subtle tropical fruits, apples and limey citrus on the nose. The palate is juicy and fruity, with orchard fruits and citrus flavours, a rounded, rich mouthfeel, and a zesty, refreshing finish. Excellent with a Thai salad.

Nick Stock (2012 Vintage) says
Another great contribution to the world of sauvignon, this tamed and toned-down style has restraint with concentration and finesse. The nose has sweet pears and apple, some lime and fresh, green, leafy herbs too. On the palate it s brisk acidity and tangy lime flavour, with gentle white stone fruits through the finish. Smoothly delivered, great balance.
Good Wine Guide
Jeremy Oliver (2012 Vintage) says
Shapely and streamlined, with genuine cellaring potential. Its punchy, fresh and lightly grassy and herbal bouquet of lychees and gooseberries reveals undertones of spice and minerals. Underpinned by a lick of wet slate, its accentuated, tangy presence of gooseberries and passionfruit extends towards a finely mineral, focused and savoury finish. Likely to flesh out with time, but not excessively so.

James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
The impish face and ready smile of Steve Pannell should not fool anyone; his escape from Hardys was perfectly timed. Pale straw-green; this is a very tightly focused and intense wine, with grapefruit, kiwi fruit and ripe citrus welded together, the finish and aftertaste of astonishing length and purity.

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
A multiplicity of aromas leap from the glass in stark contrast to most '10s, with guava and lychee among the mix, then a penetrating palate with citrus and mineral notes joining those of the bouquet. A sauvignon blanc with attitude.
Australian Wine Companion 2012
Jeremy Oliver (2010 Vintage) says
Juicy, ripe and punchy, with a fresh, very lightly grassy aroma of lychees, gooseberries and a hint of passionfruit. It's long and generous, very rich and unctuous, with a mouthfilling presence of flavour underpinned by a fine chalkiness that only asserts itself towards the finish, it culminates in a lingering core fruit and a lemon pith texture.

Potent aromas of tropical fruits and gooseberry flow through to the positive palate; picked at exactly the right time.

Spotlessly clean; lively, clean, zingy passionfruit, ripe apple and gooseberry; crisp acidity to close.
