Cracka Review

It takes a winery with conviction to make a reserve Sauvignon Semillon but Sandalford certainly have the credentials when it comes to crafting aromatic whites with top quality Margaret River fruit. As you’d expect, a powerhouse of gooseberry and herbaceous notes as well as grass and nettle add complexity. A very tropical palate with really pure fruit and a clean acid finish that would ensure any seafood experience would be heightened when matched with this.

Winemaker's Notes

Colour: Pale lemon with a lime hue

Nose: A mix of passionfruit and blackberry leaves with a hint of gooseberries

Palate: The passionfruit and blackberry leaves from the nose are joined with candied lime and fresh asparagus. This wine continues to open up and evolve with time in the glass - notes of quince paste and vanilla becoming apparent. The palate has a wonderful texture, with intense flavours and a crisp mineral character that gives the wine wonderful length on the finish. Serve chilled, and enjoy whilst young and fresh.

Varietal breakdown: 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Semillon

Alc/vol: 12.0

Ray Jordan (2012 Vintage) says
Remarkably fine and delicate blended white. Citrus and dried herbs on the nose with some nice grassy tropical tones. The palate has a delicate mouth feel with good flavour intensity. A little crunchy passionfruit completes the finish.

James Halliday (2012 Vintage) says
Light straw-green; the fragrant bouquet has aromas of passionfruit and lemon, the elegant palate adding gooseberry/kiwifruit to the mix; a touch more acidity on the finish would have made a good wine better still.

Bit greener in style, with characters of capsicum and nettles and some residual sugar.

Pale quartz; the bouquet is fragrant and expressive, speaking of the intense mix of citrus, kiwi fruit, snow pea and passionfruit (not always in that order) on the lively, fresh palate. While the semillon will provide stability over the next few years, I would drink it sooner rather than later.

WINESTATE (2010 Vintage) says
Bright, youthful, high-acid wine with sweaty/grassy aromas and good weight of varietal flavours.
WINESTATE Volume 34 (2011)
James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
The bouquet is complex, the varietal character not far removed from reduction, the bracing, zesty palate taking the wine well away from that bogey; there is a whirl of grassy/herbal, citrus/lemon and gooseberry flavours pouring through to the finish.

Ray Jordan (2010 Vintage) says
BeautifulÊ fragrant and scented on the nose with lifted dried herbs and grassy citrus aromas. The tang crisp palate has a very long tight structure with a keen zippy edge. A wine that you can drink now or cellar for a few years.

WINESTATE (2009 Vintage) says
Lifted aromas - very tropical - with honeyed notes. Great intensity, length and complexity of passionfruit and pineapple flavours. Powerful end.

WINESTATE (2008 Vintage) says
Nose of tomato leaves and capsicum. Midweight palate is crisp and lemony in the mouth.

Ray Jordan (2007 Vintage) says
A medium- to light-bodied wine that carries plenty of mid-palate intensity. Vibrant, with racy gooseberry and lemon juice influence. A touch of dried herbs on the finish makes for a complex wine.
