Sauvignon blanc has always managed to invest Skuttlebutt with an extra coat or two of rich fruit, with passionfruit, guava, Meyer lemon and cut grass all creating a daisy chain, the flavours skipping past and returning equally quickly. This will take on Marlborough's sauvignon blanc on its own terms.
This is a well-made example of a classic blend with a little winemaking twist for added complexity, as there is struck match character that site neatly among the stone and tropical fruits on offer; the palate is fleshy and lively, offering good drinking at a very reasonable price. To 2014Australian Wine Companion 2014 Edition
A blend of 53% sauvignon blanc, 44% semillon and 3% chardonnay; straw-green, it has a vibrant mix of nettle and citrus on the bouquet introducing gooseberry and white peach on the palate. The balance and length are admirable. To 2015Australian Wine Companion 2013
Pungent and powerful notes of fresh cut grass, with a creamy nutty influence. he palate has really come together nicely with the mix of sauvignon blanc and semillon plus a tiny amount of chardonnay working perfectly. Lots of lingering flavour with a lip smacking acidity to close.3 yearsWA Wine Guide 2013
Light straw-green; an immaculately balanced blend of Sauvignon Blanc (50%)/Semillon (43%)/Chardonnay (7%); the bouquet is strikingly fragrant, the palate a seamless blend of citrus, stone fruit and less tropical/passionfruit. Fresh and breezy, but there is a lot of flavour to be had, redcurrant and passionfruit at opposite ends of the spectrum, bound by appealing citrussy acidity.Australian Wine Companion 2010 2009
Pale straw-green; a delicate, fresh and gently aromatic bouquet; a fresh and light palate with a touch of passionfruit. What is there is lovely.Australian Wine Companion 2007 2006
Very fresh and aromatic; delicate palate, dry finish.Australian Wine Companion 2006 2005
Background: Skuttlebutt: The antiquated nautical term for the source of water on sea going vessels has the derived meaning of slang, gossip, chitta chatta, rumour etc. The site of this life‐sustaining liquid on board was also the bed from which the grapevine of social gossip did sprout. As such, the chance to catch up with friends over a glass of good wine is the perfect occasion for Skuttlebutt.
Tasting note: Lifted aromatics of zesty citrus and nashi pear are in harmony with the beautiful stone fruit characters. On the palate lime and nectarine from the Semillon are complemented by rambutan with a tropical passionfruit lift, finishing with freshness and a delicious fruit sweetness.
Blend: 62% Sauvignon Blanc and 38% Semillon.
Food: Seafood & salads.
Drink: Young, whilst fresh and vibrant.
