cracka review

The Sticks Pinot is a classic example of a wine that you’ll just want to go back to again and again. From 30-year-old vines this wine is all about delicacy, fragrance, subtlety and finesse. You’ll find lots of savoury and cherry aromas with earth before a vital palate of red fruits and soft tannins with a ridiculously long finish. This works really well with savoury mushroom dishes.

expert reviews

Wine Companion (2015 Vintage) says
A staple on many Melbourne restaurant wine lists, this classic Yarra pinot from the highly regarded '15 vintage ticks all the boxes, cherry, spice and a silky voluminous palate that carries and persists, lovely balance.

Gary Walsh (2015 Vintage) says
This looks very good in a blind lineup of 30 sub $25 Pinot Noir. Quality of the vintage shining through, I guess. Slightly smoky and funky, cherry, spice. Medium bodied, tannic, minerally acid, dry and quite long. Feel authentic. Very good.

Rob Geddes MW (2011 Vintage) says
Delicious varietal characters of raspberry and strawberry. Wisps of nutmeg spice with bright flavours and velvety tannins as a result of blending from upper Yarra and Dixons creek. In 2011 a crunchy tannin and acid structure and fleshy strawberry mid palate medium long makes it a versatile food wine.

Bright colour; a light spicy/savoury style that needs more mid-palate vinosity.

Light-bodied; savoury elements run through the light red cherry fruit; unforced, but not riveting

Light- to medium-bodied; elegant, savoury style typical of the vintage; spiced plums; good length.

Pleasant plum and red cherry fruit; relatively crisp finish; no frills but it is Pinot Noir.

James Halliday (2002 Vintage) says
Medium red-purple; fresh plum and dark cherry fruit is not threatened by the oak on the bouquet; the palate is intense, long, yet not the least heavy, complexed by savoury nuances. Excellent wine.

James Halliday (2000 Vintage) says
Light to medium red-purple; the bouquet is somewhat closed with plummy fruit and a hint of spice, aromas reflected in the plummy/spicy palate which is, however, quite firm, and needs time to evolve.

winemaker's notes

Vibrant red and dripping in the sweet cherry, plum and spice characters that typify good Yarra Valley Pinot Noir. Chalky textures balance out the red cherry, cranberry, cinnamon and spice, surrounded by a velvety mouth-feel. If cellared for 3-5 years, it will soften and develop even more. Try pairing it with duck or suckling pig.
