    cracka review

This cracking Victorian Shiraz comes from one of the best in the business, with Tahbilk now counting a very healthy 150 years making wine. With Tahbilk's big focus on Shiraz, it's no surprise how good this looks. Meaty, spicy and deliciously plummy, this exclusive Shiraz is a sprightly beast, with loads of Central Vic fruit goodness and real tannins. Superb stuff from a winery in the groove.

    Sam Kim (2016 Vintage) says
A fabulous Shiraz offering fruit richness as well as elegance, showing lifted aromas of black/blueberry, violet, vanilla, black olive and cedar on the nose. The palate is delectably expressed and beautifully fruited with velvety texture and supple tannins. Mouth-filling and highly enjoyable.

    winemaker's notes

Viticulture / Winemaking: This wine was crafted from 100% Shiraz grapes, sourced from our vineyards in the Murray, Goulburn and King Valleys. Grapes were picked and crushed during the cool of night to retain their fresh, varietal flavours. The juice was then divided into select parcels. Each parcel underwent a different treatment such as malolactic fermentation; fermentation and time with French and American oak; or spending an extended period on yeast lees. Each treatment resulted in an individually flavoured parcel of wine, and the unique character and personality of the final blend is a result of the special handling of these separate parcels.

Harvest Notes: The best way to describe vintage for 2016 is fast & furious! There was no orderly ripening of fruit, no luxury of white fruit followed by red fruit, it was like the flood gates opened and everything just rolled in at once. We had little rain and a very hot spring leading up to harvest, which meant things ripened faster than normal. Solid flavours and ripeness came on more quickly than previous years and the only way around it was to pick as fast as we could. We were able to pick most of our reds at ideal ripeness and with good flavours. Our different blocks of Shiraz were of optimum class; with juicy, bright fruit. Although a condensed vintage, a very successful one!

Wine Description: This 2016 Shiraz has aromas of earth, spice and blackcurrants which are evident on the savoury palate. Abundant in dark berry and plum fruits with a hint of black pepper.

Food Recommendations: An ideal partner to gourmet barbecued meats or a hearty stew.
