2016 Taylors Estate Pinot Gris

Cracka Value Rating

Cracka Review

Taylors know what everyday wine drinkers want, and here they give it to you in this elegant, highly smashable pinot gris. It's a lighter-bodied style with a touch of sweetness, and shows lots of pear smells along with hints of apples, lemons and subtle ginger spice. The palate is light, fresh and crisp, with a kiss of sweetness upfront followed by pear and citrus flavours, a touch of talciness, and poised bright acidity leading to a crunchy finish. It gets a double thumbs-up for value, and would be excellent with dishes involving chorizo.

Winemaker's Notes

An elegant, refreshing palate with varietal definition of pear and spicy baked apple.

Colour: At release the wine is a pale straw

Bouquet: The wine has distinctly lifted varietal aromas of ripe pear, apple and melon with a subtle blossom perfume. The overall bouquet is fresh, clean and very enticing

Palate: This wine, crafted in the French style of the varietal, has an elegant palate with regional varietal characters of pear, apple, citrus and subtle spice. There is a pleasing texture to the mid-palate with overall good acid balance and fruit persistence

Cellaring notes: This wine should be enjoyed whilst young and fresh but will also cellar well for 1 to 3 years under ideal conditions

Alc/vol: 13.5%

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
A rich example of Clare riesling; ripe, slightly exotic fruit bouquet is followed by a fractionally tart fruit finish.
