A bright and frisky number from Wirra Wirra. Stone fruits and lemons adorn the nose, whilst the palate is light, vibrant and crunchy, with a ripe peachy centre, zippy acidity and a refreshing, lip-smacking finish. Just the thing for those unexpected guests.
When the late Greg Trott christened a flat, barren landscape at the front of our winery ‘Scrubby Rise’, he started a theme that things aren’t always as they seem at Wirra Wirra. In keeping with Trott’s laid back Aussie humour, today the vineyard is overlooked by a viewing platform known as ‘The Jetty’, while a well dressed gent in a red boat rows between the vines. The message is not to take life too seriously.
Bouquet: Plenty of bright citrus fruit, alongside fresh peach and nectarine. Youthful and varietal Chardonnay.
Palate: Rich, succulent stone fruits are gently supported by a fine layer of cedar and subtle creamy texture.
Drink: Drink while young and fresh.
Food Match: Baked pesto chicken with rocket and roasted lemon halves, or chat potatoes and seasonal vegetables.
Vinification: Once optimal ripeness was achieved the fruit was machine picked in the cool of the night, crushed and de-stemmed to Wirra Wirra’s Wilmes bag press. Pressings were separated from the free-run juices and then cold settled for 4 – 7 days. The clear juice was racked off solids prior to fermentation. A relatively cool fermentation took place over 15 days. A small portion was fermented in a mixture of new and seasoned French oak. Once the ferment was completely dry and settled, the wine was blended, stabilised and lightly fined before filtration and bottling.
