Cracka Review

There's lots of crunchy green pears, honeysuckle and subtle stone fruits in this puppy, both on the nose and the palate. It's all supported by richness and creaminess, bright, balanced acidity, and a dry, talcy finish.

Winemaker's Notes

The cool growing season of the Adelaide Hills together with vineyard orientation that maximizes sunlight, aids the development of rich and vibrant Pinot Gris.

Fruit selected from the Adelaide Hills region was night-harvested to retain maximum fruit flavour and gently pressed to avoid the transfer of any harsh tannins and colour. A portion of the wine was fermented in oak to add spice and complexity; this was further matured in contact with the yeast lees to build structure and layers of interest.

Colour: Pale straw

Aroma: Lifted notes of ripe pear and nectarine with a touch of citrus

Palate: Juicy nashi pear, and nectarine, a textured mid palate with minerality and a hint of nutty, spicy oak on the finish

Food match: Caramelised onion tarts of flaky puff-pastry with goats cheese, balsamic glaze, with a pear & rocket salad

James Halliday (2012 Vintage) says
Quartz-green; a pinot gris with an undoubted presence and character, with a blossom-filled bouquet and pear and honeysuckle flavours on the well-balanced palate. Part of an impressive Regional Collection series. 13% alc.
WINESTATE (2010 Vintage) says
Shy nose with peas and cashews evolving. Similar characters echoed on the lithe palate.

Very faint touch of pink; a lively and fresh wine, with more character than many, zesty lemon, pear and apple flavours at work.

Surprising grip and length; nashi pear flavours; lots of expression.

Max Allen & Peter Forrestal (2004 Vintage) says
A terrific, well-priced pinot gris from this Murray-Darling producer - they're at Karadoc near the huge Lindemans winery. It has beguiling floral aromas, is supple and satisfying on the palate before finishing dry and savoury. A very good food wine: try it with poached white-fleshed fish with a squeeze of lime, a heap of chips, and a healthy salad.
