Akarangi Chardonnay

Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (1999 Vintage) says
Grown on the banks of the Tukituki River at Havelock North, Morton Osborne's Hawke's Bay Chardonnay tends to lack weight and flavour richness, although the 1998 shows good body and pleasing depth of citrusy, appley flavours. The 1999 was mainly handled in tanks, with 20 per cent of the blend oak-aged for eight months. A simple, slightly appley and spicy wine, it's light and smooth, but lacks any real concentration or complexity.

Michael Cooper (1998 Vintage) says
Grown on the banks of the Tukituki River at Havelock North, past vintages of Morton Osborne's Hawke's Bay Chardonnay tended to lack weight and flavour richness, showing light, crisp, green-apple characters. The 1998 is clearly the best yet. Lightly wooded (20 per cent of the final blend was barrel-aged for 10 months), it's a fruit-driven style, fresh and crisp, with good body and pleasing depth of citrusy, appley flavours.
