Akarua Vintage Brut

Cracka Review

Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from several blocks on Akarua Estate are hand harvested and whole bunch pressed. All batches are kept separate. Juices are settled and racked to yeast fermentation in old oak barrels.

A selection of the finest base wines of the 2010 harvest was made to produce a Vintage Brut blend of strong character, subtle aroma and flavour complexity. To give the wine a slight dominance of red fruit character over 50% of the blend is Pinot Noir, Chardonnay contributes roundness and finesse.

The blended base wines are transferred to bottle with a little yeast and sugar to undergo the sparkling fermentation. They are then aged for a minimum of 36 months on yeast in bottle before ‘riddling’ and disgorging.

Akarua Vintage Brut 2010 is a wine of character and complexity. Pinot Noir red fruit and savoury aromas are enhanced by toasty, nutty and yeasty notes, leading to a creamy middle and a long crisp brut finish.

Vintage Brut 2010 is an aperitif style for any occasion and it has strong enough character and flavour to be enjoyed with many dishes.
