Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (1998 Vintage) says
This Martinborough red is consistently delightful and a rare example of a distinguished Cabernet-based red from south of Hawke's Bay. An elegant, finely balanced wine, warm, spicy and subtle, the 1996 vintage is drinking well now. There is no 1997. The 1998 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (80 per cent), Cabernet Franc (10 per cent) and Merlot (10 per cent), matured for a year in new and seasoned French oak barriques. A stylish wine with obvious cellaring potential, it's richly coloured and vibrantly fruity, with deep cassis/plum flavours, spicy oak adding complexity and smooth, ripe tannins. This smallolume, easily overlooked label is well worth getting to know.
