Alkoomi Jarrah Shiraz

Jeremy Oliver (2009 Vintage) says
Despite its alcoholic strength, this shiraz is fractionally under-ripened and green-edged. Musky, meaty aromas of dark plums, cranberries, blackberries and cracked black pepper precede an elegant, savoury and medium weight palate whose spicy presence of blackberries, briar, dark plums and chocolate/mocha oak thins out marginally towards the finish.

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Holding crimson-purple hue; scented, spicy red and black berry fruit on the bouquet, followed by a near-perfect medium-bodied palate with outstanding texture and structure.

Jeremy Oliver (2007 Vintage) says
A finely balanced, earthy and savoury shiraz in an earthy, Rh™ney style. Evolved, pungent and meaty, its alluring aromas of dark plums, berries and white pepper reveal gamey undertones. It's smooth and unctuous, elegant and fine-grained, with a deep, dark fruitfulness knit tightly with firm, pliant tannins and polished cedar/vanilla oak, finishing with length, concentration and a hint of iodice.

Jeremy Oliver (2003 Vintage) says
Dark, spicy, deeply flavoured and brooding, this leathery and rustic shiraz presents meaty flavours of blackberries, mulberries and plums with cedary oak over musky and rather reductive undertones. It's long, linear, fine and quite restrained, marrying sweet berry fruit with pencil shavings like oak, but appears to have been slightly over-protected from oxygen, of which it could perhaps have seen more.

James Halliday (2003 Vintage) says
Medium-bodied; a woven tapestry moves across the palate; blackberry, plum, licorice and lingering spicy notes; minimal tannin and oak.

Campbell Mattinson (2003 Vintage) says
The Frankland River region of Western Australia is a beautiful place to grow shiraz grapes. Alkoomi grows some of the region's oldest vines. 2003 RELEASE It's the tannin structure that I have a problem with here. It's tough and drying, with flavours of hung game wafting through more attractive notes of blueberry and five-spice. The fruit flavours are excellent, the flow through the finish not so good. DRINK 2009-2013.
The Big Red Wine Book 2008
Jeremy Oliver (2002 Vintage) says
Its perfume of cassis, violets, plums and blackberries overlies sweet chocolate/vanilla/cedar oak qualities and distinctive meaty, leathery and earthy nuances. It's long and well structured, delivering a complete palate of dark plum, cassis and mulberry-like fruit and sweet oak framed by a firmish backbone of fine-grained tannins. Attractively flavoured and well balanced.
Australian Wine Annual 2006 2005
Jeremy Oliver (2001 Vintage) says
Ultra-ripe aromas of slightly stressed and shrivelled black fruits with pencil-shavings wood and some meaty, horse-hair influences. Spicy, earthy and meaty, with a long and moderately full palate of concentrated dark fruits, chocolate and treacle, polished cedar/vanilla oak and licorice-like undertones. Dries out at the finish, but should make good shorter term drinking.
Australian Wine Annual 2005 2004
James Halliday (2001 Vintage) says
Elegant, medium-bodied; more savoury, spicy than usual; gentle tannins.
Australian Wine Companion 2005 2004
James Halliday (2000 Vintage) says
Medium purple-red; the fragrant and aromatic bouquet has fragrant red cherry/redcurrant and spice aromas, the oak subtle; the volume of fruit sweetness picks up markedly on the palate, which is almost entirely fruit-driven, although there are fine tannins and oak in support.
Australian Wine Companion 2004 2003
James Halliday (1999 Vintage) says
Bright purple-red; abundant dark cherry and licorice aromas are followed by a classy palate with a savoury cool-climate twist of spice, fine tannins and restrained oak. Finesse and subtlety, not raw power. Gold medal Great Australian Shiraz Challenge 2001.
