This cab merlot from Alkoomi represents mighty fine value for the contents of the bottle. It's an elegant, medium-bodied style that shows atypical smells of blackcurrant and choc-mint on the nose, that translates perfectly to the palate flavours. It's all wrapped up in fine, savoury-edged tannins, bright acidity, and a nice plum and earth finish, with just a sprinkle of dried herbs in the tail. Excellent with some beef ribs. 

Winemaker's Notes

This wine was made with Frankland River fruit from several blocks, picked at optimal ripeness to give depth to the flavour profile. Harvested in the early hours of the morning, the fruit was cold soaked for three days prior to fermentation and then matured for 9 months with French oak to build complexity.

Appearance: Deep crimson with ruby hues.

Nose: Medium to full bodied with ripe, red fruit flavours and earthy layers of dark chocolate and spice with an even fine grained tannin structure.

Palate: Medium to full bodied with ripe, red fruit flavours and earthy layers of dark chocolate and spice with an even fine grained tannin structure.

Food:

Cellaring: Ready to enjoy now, although will gain complexity over the next three to five years with careful cellaring.

Such distinctive varietal and regional definition rarely emerges from WA at this price. Juicy, ripe blackcurrant, cassis and blackberry fruits are underlined by fine, supple tannins, with nicely balanced grip on the finish.

A rich and flavoursome blended red from a pretty good vintage. The deep dark concentrated black fruits show distinct black olive and blackcurrant nuances with earthy savoury plummy fruitcake touches. It's balanced with plenty in the mid palate. Great or the price.

Smells better than the price would suggest. Chocolate, blackberry, touch of gumleaf. It's sweetly ripe and full of berry and dark chocolate flavour, pulled back - and in to place - by grainy tannin. Goes very well for the money. A cabernet you can dive in to now.
