Michael Cooper (2009 Vintage) says
The 2007, estate-grown in The Triangle, is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (36 pet cent), Cabernet Franc (27 per cent), Merlot (23 per cent) and Malbec (14 per cent), matured for 17 months in French oak barriques (75 per cent new). Deeply coloured, it is scented and supple, with rich blackcurrant and nut flavours, hints of dark chocolate and herbs, and impressive complexity. The very classy, finely textured 2009 vintage is full-coloured and weighty, with highly concentrated, blackcurrant-like flavours to the fore, herb and nut characters, and ripe, supple tannins. It's already approachable, but should mature gracefully for a decade.

Still on sale, the 2002 vintage grown at Maraekakaho, is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc, matured for 22 months in French oak barriques (75 per cent new). Dark, with maturing colour, it reveals highly concentrated cassis, plum, spice, herb and nut flavours, showing impressive complexity. Now starting to soften, it's at its peak. (The next release is from 2007.)

The 2000 vintage is a triumph for Hawke's Bay claret-style reds. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc, it shows striking all-round intensity, with impenetrable colour and bottomless depth of blackcurrant, nut and spice flavours. Even an Aussie red-wine lover would be forced to sit up and pay attention

Built to last, the 1998 vintage is a densely coloured, purple-black blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc, grown in Hawke's Bay. Highly concentrated, it's a beautifully rich wine with a powerful surge of ripe blackcurrant flavours, a hint of eucalypt and smooth, persistent finish. It should be a beauty with cellaring.
