Alpha Domus The Pilot Hawke's Bay Merlot

Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (2008 Vintage) says
Matured for nearly a year in seasoned French oak casks, the 2008 vintage is full-coloured, with good depth of cassis, plum, herb and spice flavours, a touch of savoury complexity and a firm finish. It's drinking well now, but the 2008 Merlot Cabernet (below) has the edge.

Michael Cooper (2005 Vintage) says
The full-coloured 2004 vintage is a blend of Merlot (78 per cent), Malbec (9 per cent), Cabernet Sauvignon (7 per cent) and Cabernet Franc (6 per cent), matured for seven months in seasoned French and American oak barriques. It offers berry, plum, herb and spice flavours, slightly toasty and savoury, in a sweetly oaked style with satisfying depth, now ready. The 2005 is a medium-bodied wine with plenty of plummy, spicy, fairly firm flavour.
