Amberley Estate Merlot

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Western Australia's Great Southern actually does Merlot pretty well, with a climate that seems well suited to this somewhat problematic variety.Of course very few wineries actually seem to be following this lead, so gooduns' are still few and far between. This particular wine sits at the more affable end of the Merlot spectrum with some soft, creamy, berrylicious fruit flavours to be had. Nice.

Winemaker's Notes

Deep red with a vibrant crimson hue, this wine displays aromatic cherries and raspberries on the bouquet, with leaf and earthy charry background notes. Raspberry jam and stewed plum flavours are balanced perfectly by velvety tannins and acidity leaving a clean, refreshing finish.

Designed for early consumption, this wine is also able to cellar in good conditions for between 5-7 years.

If all merlots were like this, you could understand why they are so popular in the marketplace; it is medium-bodied, supple and smooth, with notes of cassis, plum and red cherry, with seductive mouthfeel, and welcoming the faintly savoury tannins on the finish.

Soft and velvety smooth merlot displaying nice varietal character. Generous medium bodied fruit cake and plum flavours with fine tannins and juts a little oak. ItÕs built for current drinking with its fleshy ripe fruit a feature.
