Amberley Estate Sauvignon Blanc

Expert Reviews

Jeremy Oliver (2008 Vintage) says
Generous and rather grassy, with intense, forward expression of lychees, passionfruit and gooseberries backed by nutty, herbaceous and almost sweaty influences. It becomes quite fine and elegant along the palate, which is underpinned by a dusty, chalky texture and finished with pleasing lemony acids.

A fresh, vibrant sauvignon blanc whose intense aromas of zesty lime, gooseberries and lychees reveal lightly grassy and schisty undertones. Tightly wrapped in clean, mineral acids, its long, intense and focused palate reveals tangy flavours of passionfruit and tropical fruits without ever appearing heavy, sweaty or viscous.

A delightfully tangy and regional wine whose delicate, slightly musky, herbal and grassy aromas of cassis and gooseberries are lifted by a floral scent. Elegant and unctuous, smooth and even, its long and vibrant palate of juicy flavour finishes fresh and tight, with very soft acids and gentle phenolics.

James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Dense blackcurrant and blackberry fruit, with oak very evident from the bouquet through to the finish and aftertaste; a silky, fleshy palate, with ripe tannins.

Jeremy Oliver (2001 Vintage) says
Possibly the finest red wine yet from Amberley, this searingly intense and finely balanced young cabernet offers plenty of vibrant and tightly focused flavour. Its floral, lightly earthy and gamey aromas of violets, dark cherries, boysen-berries and blackberries are supported by cedary oak, while its long, juicy palate shows delightful integration between fruit, oak, tannin and acidity. Give it time.

Jeremy Oliver (2000 Vintage) says
A polished, elegant cabernet with a developing earthy bouquet of briary plums and small berries, cedary/chocolate oak and pleasing leathery complexity. Full to medium in weight, its smooth, supple palate of bright berry/plum fruit and cedar/vanilla oak is tightly balanced and supported by fine tannins. A huge improvement in elegance and ripeness.
