Amelia Park Margaret River Chardonnay

Winemaker's Notes

VINEYARDS: We have sourced two vineyards for our Chardonnay in the Wilyabrup sub-region. Two clones are used, being The P58 and Gin Gin clones. These sites are selected for their ability to produce ripe flavours at low baume with great acid balance resulting in a finely structured elegant Chardonnay.

SEASON: The 2013 vintage will go down as another great vintage in Margaret River. An unsettled weather period in November that consisted of rain, hail and high winds impacted flowering and as a result yields down by around 30%. Whilst yields where down, the fruit intensity and quality is very high.

HARVEST DATE: February 2013

ANALYSIS: Alcohol 13.5% TA 7.0g/l pH 3.25

BOTTLING DATE: December 2013

WINEMAKING: Both parcels where hand picked to ensure the quality of the juice is maintained and fruit flavours and aromatics are pristine. Both parcels are pressed off into stainless steel tanks and allowed to settle overnight, allowing the slightly clouded juice to be racked to barrel for fermentation the next day. All parcels are naturally fermented in a mixture of first, second and third use French barrels. This wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation. Once primary ferment is completed the wine is matured on its lees, in barrel, for 9 months before being blended and prepared for bottling.

CLOSURE: Screwcap

CELLARING: Up to 5 years.

TASTING NOTES: A fragrant bouquet of grapefruit, melon and pear with notes of nuttiness and flinty characters. The palate is soft and fresh with hints of lime, melon and nectarine.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2013 Vintage) says
Jeremy Gordon has a light touch in making chardonnay, the wine with freshness and balance the keys to its personality, enhancing, rather than inhibiting, its varietal expression. Nine months in oak has simply been a tool allowing the focus to fix onto the seamless blend of white peach, melon and grapefruit and its blue sky finish.
Ray Jordan (2013 Vintage) says
Beautifully presented chardonnay bursting with vibrant, energetic fruit intensity. Loads of nutty stone fruit and minerally grapefruit character. It’s deep and intense with a precise palate accentuated by those lemony crisp acid features. Finishes with a dry savoury edge.
