Michael Cooper (2009 Vintage) says
Estate-grown at Lowburn, in the Cromwell Basin, and matured in French oak barriques (30 pet cent new), the 2009 vintage is dark and vibrantly fruity, with generous plum, cherry, spice, herb and nut flavours, woven with fresh acidity. A big, youthful, fairly firm wine, it has the power to age; open mid-2012+.

Michael Cooper (2008 Vintage) says
Estate-grown in the Cromwell Basin and matured in French oak barriques (25 per cent new), the 2007 vintage is a distinguished wine, notably dense, rich and supple. Full-coloured, with deliciously ripe, sweet-fruit flavours of cherries, plums and spices and a long, finely textured finish, it's a classy, generous red, still unfolding. The 2008 has generous plum and spice flavours, showing good complexity and density, and excellent harmony. It's still youthful; open 2011+.

Jeff Sinnott made top-flight Pinot Noirs at Isabel Estate in Marlborough, so it's no surprise his first Amisfield red is highly impressive. The warm, seriously structured 2002 vintage was estate-grown at the foot of the Pisa Range, in the Cromwell Basin, picked at 24.8 brix and fermented with cultured and indigenous yeasts. It's a complex wine with a lovely array of cherry, raspberry and spice flavours, seasoned with nutty oak, and a long finish with fine-grained tannins. A label to watch.
