Andrew Thomas Individual Vineyard Shiraz

Expert Reviews

Campbell Mattinson & Gary Walsh (2007 Vintage) says
This is old-school, low-oak, naturally acidified (using semillon) red winemaking at its best. We pretty much always love Andrew Thomas's reds, but if there's a criticism, they can be heavy with oak - this wine has no such issue, having been aged only in older oak. It hadn't yet been named at the time of print. An awesome regional shiraz. It's not dense or especially rich, though, so turn off if that's your bent. It smells delicious: of cranberry and raspberries and violets, with maybe even a touch of pepper (unusual for a Hunter red). It's fine-boned in terms of tannin and has a svelte body of flavour - everything's humming along beautifully. We can't get enough of this kind of red. Classic.
