Campbell Mattinson & Gary Walsh (2008 Vintage) says
When we set out to find Australia's best recession-busting wine producers, Angove wasn't one of the first names that came to mind. More fool us. It is a star winery. Sweet and juicy, but with enough earthy, savoury elements to keep it from seeming overdone. It tastes of raspberry jam and mulberries, bay leaves and toast, and it has the tannin structure of a more seriously priced red. Cash in! It has a good, long aftertaste and enough balance and drinkability to more than warrant the rating.

Peter Forrestal (2007 Vintage) says
There are plenty of rich, concentrated plummy flavours but a dominant oaky edge gives it a firm finish. Try and tame it with a robust beef stew.

Pungent aromas with medicinal hints. Big, rich palate, excellent fruit, lots of tannins and lots of potential. 3-5
