Cracka Review

Sustainable practices are becoming more and more common in vineyards across Australia as both consumers and winemakers search for a way to not mess with the environment. Angove’s have created a Shiraz Cabernet that is as pure as the day it was picked without the aid of fertilisers or chemicals. Packed with cherry, raspberry and spice, it’s nicely medium bodied with earthy, savoury flavours and subtle oak. A barbecue wine of the highest order, best matched with some sustainable meat products.

Winemaker's Notes

Medium red with purple hues. Aromas of raspberry and red cherries flourish before leading to spicy pepper and soft oak flavours on the palate, with a long yet soft, earthy finish.

Appearance: Medium red with purple hues.

Nose: Aromas of raspberry and red cherries.

Palate: Spicy pepper and soft oak flavours on the palate, with a long yet soft, earthy finish.

Food: Red meat or cheeses.

Cellaring: 2017

Alcohol: 12.5%

Winemaking: The grapes for this wine were picked at night to make sure that they were as cool as possible. Crushed to modern rotary fermenters the grapes were then allowed to macerate for 2 days before inoculation and fermentation. Pressed off skins 7 days later and allowed to go through the second malolactic fermentation. Stored in small oak barrels until assemblage the wine has then had minimal handling prior to filtration for bottling at our certified Organic winery.

Reviews and Accolades

“Angove’s has been making wine for five generations and they’re leading the way with affordable organic wines. It’s certified organic, but more importantly for me it’s a tasty wine. There’s blackberry aromas from the shiraz, plus dusty redcurrant and bay leaf aromas from the cabernet. It sits in a generous zone between medium and full-bodied, with rich red and blackberry flavours.”
Ben Thomas - The Weekly Review, 02.04.15

Raspberries, bitter dark chocolate, some clove and a dash of baking spice. There’s almost a raspberry and chocolate tart likeness here and the whole package offers quite a bit of interest. There is not much acid to speak of and the fruit predominantly sits on the mid palate.”

Clear medium red-purple; a well-made medium-bodied wine with juicy blackberry and blackcurrant fruit on the bouquet and mid-palate, finishing with savoury tannins. Excellent value.

Bright hue; a lively and juicy wine with abundant plum and black cherry fruit supported by good acidity and tannins, oak a minor support role.

It's one of the only widely available organic red wines on the market - surprisingly. There should be more of them. It's a fine drink, too. Beautiful wine to drink. Has lovely texture and lovely flavour - jubey blackberries and blackcurrants and a nice lick of liquoricey spice. It carries nicely along your tongue and seems full and satisfying as you swallow it. It's not for cellaring but it is for drinking. Regardless of its organic status - an important point - it's simply a good red wine.

A fragrant, light-bodied wine with juicy red and black fruits, no oak and minimal tannins; works well.

This is certified organic and it's very good. We have a feeling it marks a new era for high-quality affordable, organically grown red wine in Australia. This is such a great release. It's soft, hugely gluggable, full of toasty, nutty, fruity flavour and all of fresh and clean and bright. Expect to find flavours of blackcurrant, blueberry jubes, raspberry and a touch of spice. Expect, even more, to love drinking it.
