Burnt umber colour; a lusciously rich yet nimble mix of fruitcake, mocha, toffee, bitter chocolate and brandy snap. Another major surprise, winning the top gold medal in the small volume, aged fortified tawny class in the National Wine Show '11, causing the judges to comment 'a classic example of the style'. 500ml.

An average age of 15 years, with the oldest component dating back to 1971. This shows a deeper colour and a magnificently complex and heady nose that is bathed in dried, spiced plum fruits, orange rind, cumquat and a little slice of bright fresh oak, with some fragrant perfume fronti-like elements too. The palate is rich, smooth and lovely, textural old wine with bright acidity, and plenty of depth and length _ it virtually refuses to leave. Clean, bright finish, eventually!
