We liked both vintages we tasted of this wine, although for the money, it's a fairly straightforward, simple and fruity cabernet.

Over the past five or six years, the Sarnia Farm has helped lift Angove's profile with Aussie wine lovers: it's a reasonably priced, quality cabernet from Padthaway. The 1998 vintage has yielded a stunner which we like much better than the cabernet from the previous vintage. This is an almost voluptuous red with fragrant vanillin oak aromas, dense blackcurrant and dark plum flavours and fine, quite gentle tannins. It is soft, round and lush with a velvety texture. Although the oak is quite bold, it is neatly integrated with the rich, concentrated fruit.

Medium red-purple; the bouquet is firm and fresh with earthy cabernet varietal character and echoes of mint and cedar. The palate is similarly quite firm and fresh, with blackcurrant/cassis fruit and fine tannins to close.

Medium to full red-purple; an attractive bouquet with sweet cassis and cedar aromas is followed by a palate which, while only of medium weight, is quite luscious, with sweet cassis/berry fruit supported by sweet oak. Soft tannin finish.
