Cracka Review

Winemakers are playing about with alternative varieties with real success and some of the Italia varieties are really taking off, not only are they medium bodied but they are also well matched to food. Angullongs Fossil Hill is a reference to the ancient geology of the region, when the whole area was covered by the sea, and fossils dating back to that time are still found in the vineyards. This Barbera is on tune like Pavarotti and as savoury as mammas meatballs, expect berries and chocolate, spice and cedar before a silky, persistent finish.

Winemaker's Notes

Colour: Youthful, deep cherry red in colour.

Aroma: Dark berry, chocolate, mint and spice.

Palate: Medium bodied with abundant cherry, spice & cedar flavours, complimented by savoury notes & a soft lingering finish.

Food Matches: Roast or barbequed meats; venison, lamb & beef

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Spicy and bright red fruits; good length and weight, and certainly some drinking interest; acidity keeps the wine fresh and vibrant.

James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Youthful, spicy, peppery wine; just a little severe, perhaps Bright red-purple; cedar, black cherry and spice aromas and flavours; overall, slightly savoury, but nicely made.
