Arete The Chatterbox Barossa Valley Shiraz

Expert Reviews

Tyson Stelzer (2011 Vintage) says
Richard Bates reckons the Barossa needs to rediscover medium weight reds, so he picks a couple of weeks earlier than most. This wine is made at Spinifex with Pete Schell, whom Bates rightly describes as a “magician.” More than a little Schell magic has rubbed off here, in subtle nuances of mixed spice, lifted violet perfume and a pretty textural elegance that glides through the palate. There’s no shortage of classic 2011 black pepper, and signature Barossa blackberry and black plum fruit, too. Barossa shiraz of approachable restraint and understated enticement – bring it on!

Nick Stock (2010 Vintage) says
These grapes hail from the Koonunga area of the Barossa and show plenty of richness and ripeness, yet are made to be approachable as a young wine. The nose is crammed with dark-plum and black-cherry fruit aromas, some fine oak spice and an earthy thread. A dense and convincing palate from the outset: this has a very deep fleshy side built on ripe, soft tannins that caress rather than bite. Terrific value here.
