Ashton Hills Riesling

Expert Reviews

Tyson Stelzer (2013 Vintage) says
Ashton Hills makes the best riesling in the Adelaide Hills. Wonderfully focused, tightly strung acidity belies its warm season, subtly toned with sugar that gently lifts texture and mouth feel without appearing sweet. It's long, energetic and ageworthy.
James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Bright pale green-straw; charged with delicious lime juice flavours, the palate perfectly balanced and long. Drink now or in 15 years. Trophy Adelaide Hills Wine Show '09.
Australian Wine Companion 2011 2010
James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Gendy floral apple blossom aromas, then a finely structured palate with lime and green apple; long finish and excellent overall mouthfeel. Trophy Best Riesling Adelaide Hills Wine Show.
Australian Wine Companion 2010 2009
Rob Geddes MW (2008 Vintage) says
Consistent style with an enduring pure floral varietal fragrance with delicious weight and substance. Lovely youthful drinking in their first or fourth year or for the very long haul. It seems climate change is making the Adelaide Hills the new Clare for Riesling
Australian Wine Vintages 2010
James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Lemon, thyme and mineral aromas; crisp, intense and long, with a bone-dry finish.
Australian Wine Companion 2009 2008
James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Highly aromatic, bursting with citrus and apple blossom; the same flavours come through strongly on the well-balanced and long palate. Unusually strong for Ashton Hill.
Australian Wine Companion 2008 2007
James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Herbs, flowers and apple blossom aromas; delicate, crisp apple and lime fruit; balanced acidity and length.
Australian Wine Companion 2006 2005
James Halliday (2003 Vintage) says
Lime and apple blossom aromas; elegant, crisp, gentle citrus palate; very stylish.
Australian Wine Companion 2005 2004
James Halliday (2001 Vintage) says
Pale straw-green; a highly aromatic, floral bouquet with lemon blossom and a touch of passionfruit flows into a crisp, intense and long palate, offering a mix of mineral flavours and the fruit flavours promised by the bouquet. Trophy for Best Wine of Show at the 2001 Adelaide Hills Wine Show. Stelvin cap.
Australian Wine Companion 2003 2002
James Halliday (1998 Vintage) says
Light green-yellow; a very pure manifestation of Riesling, with lovely, crisp lime and mineral aromas. The palate, likewise, has crystal clear varietal fruit, lime-accented, with great length. Will develop beautifully.
Australian Wine Companion 2001 2001
James Halliday (1997 Vintage) says
Light green-yellow; the bouquet is fragrant, with intense passionfruit and lime aromas, the palate crisp, clean and firm, with lime and mineral flavours. Great acidity and a long finish. Will develop superbly.
