Askerne Sauvignon Blanc

Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (1998 Vintage) says
This small Havelock North winery makes a consistently decent Hawke's Bay Sauvignon Blanc. The satisfyingly weighty and ripe-tasting 1998 vintage which includes 10 per cent Semillon, was estate-grown north of Te Mata Peak, and 10 per cent of the final blend was oak-aged for five months. Attractively fresh and lively, with a very subtle seasoning of wood, it offers plenty of melon/lime flavour, ripe and rounded. (The 1999 won a silver medal in August at the Liquorland Top 100 Competition.)

James Halliday (1997 Vintage) says
Light straw-yellow; a voluminous, highly charged bouquet with lots of passionfruit, and slightly sweaty overtones. The palate, too, is flavoursome in the extreme, with gooseberry and passionfruit, cloying fractionally on the finish.
