Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (2008 Vintage) says
Syrah is still largely unproven in Central Otago, but this Cromwell Basin red shows what can be achieved. The 2008 vintage was harvested at 24.5 brix and matured for 10 months in French oak casks (40 per cent new). Dark and dense, it has very concentrated blackcurrant, plum, spice and nut flavours. A powerful, rich wine, it is finely structured, with considerable elegance and finesse.

Michael Cooper (2007 Vintage) says
Syrah is unproven in Central Otago, but the 2006 vintage of this rich, vibrant wine is a positive pointer to the future. Boldly coloured, with concentrated flavours of plums, spices and liquorice, woven with fresh, balanced acidity, it shows good complexity and structure. The 2007 was harvested at 26.8 brix from very low-cropped vines (3 tonnes/hectare), and barrel-aged for 10 months. Dense and youthful in colour, it is vibrant, with good fruit sweetness and lush, finely poised, plummy flavours.
