Good varietal character in aroma, flavour and texture; spicy/savoury nuances to the base of black cherry fruit; a long and balanced palate.

James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Light- to medium-bodied; a complex mix of black and red fruits and a touch of whole bunch/stem; has very good length and finish. Trophy 2005 Geelong Wine Show.

James Halliday (2002 Vintage) says
Ripe tobacco leaf, spice and plum aromas and flavours; huge palate; alcohol, extract and ripe fruit.

James Halliday (2001 Vintage) says
Medium purple-red. bright and clear; the spotlessly clean bouquet has light plum and a dusting of spice in classic varietal mould; the palate has intense flavours precisely replicating the bouquet, and a long, lingering finish. Wonderful varietal character; in stark contrast to the weird, densely coloured black-hole-in-space 2000 vintage, which looked as if it might not have undergone malolactic fermentation.
