B3 Wines John Oscar Shiraz

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

If you love full bodied, rich and concentrated Shiraz from the Barossa then this is for you. It’s what the region is famous for and the Basedow brothers know how to secure the best fruit to craft wines like this. We love this wine, sure it’s not subtle, nor would we want it to be. This is what the Barossa does best and it’s crammed with a cornucopia of aromas and flavours. Dip your nose in and revel in dark choc, plum and spice before your palate becomes totally seduced by fine oak, tight tannins and a superb length. Do yourself a favour and decant this a good hour before serving.

Winemaker's Notes

Intense deep red with crimson hues. The wine has an abundance of aromas including wild blackberry, choc mint, vanilla, dark chocolate, satsuma plum, hints of bay leaf spice and a touch of leather. This is a complex wine. The palate shows some chocolate licorice bullet flavours, tight grape tannins combined with fine oak tannins from a combination of French and American oak maturation and great length of fruit flavour. Incredibly well balanced wine with great potential for ageing.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Deep colour; a brooding mass of black fruits, fruitcake, tar and chocolate are on display on the bouquet; the palate is warm, thickly textured and generous, almost to a fault, yet the palate provides freshness and ripe well-rounded tannins.

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Deep colour; a fresh and lively bouquet of black fruits, licorice and toasty oak; the palate shows surprisingly high levels of acidity, providing light and energy to the dense nature of the fruit; long and luscious.

James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Essency blackberry fruit aromas, which follow through on the palate; good concentration; the balance of fruit and tannin provides for a long and supple finish.
